The term “middle” is one of these words, which has been used in some verses of the Qur’ān as a description for human beings. Since this term is intertwined with social and political concepts, it is often misused in the political literature prevalent among certain segments of the population, influenced by the secular terminology of Western culture, leading to semantic confusion and cognitive errors. This research, while aiming to clarify the conceptual scope of “middle” and examine its opposite meaning, by employing a linguistic approach and interpreting the Qur’ān through the Qur’ān itself, alongside a thorough examination of Nahj al-Balagha and the statements of the Supreme Leader, demonstrates that the context of the verses seeks to elucidate the path and journey of human movement rather than merely describing the human being. A crucial aspect of discovering and understanding the meaning of “middle” is the attention to its association with words such as “guidance,” “straight path,” and the sequence of verses. The outcome of this investigation explains the conceptual link between “middle” and the term “straight,” which signifies stability, permanence, and adherence to the path of truth. In this explanation, the opposite of “middle” is one who deviates from the right path, not an extremist in the sense of being a believer or someone who has advanced on the straight path and maintains stability in their way. توجه به مفهوم واژگان در نظام واره آیات قرآن، به منظور فهم صحیح و برداشت درست در زندگی عملی انسان از مواردی است که توجه و اهتمام به آن، همواره دغدغه اندیشمندان دینی بوده است. واژه وسط، یکی از این واژگان است که در برخی آیات قرآن به عنوان توصیفی برای انسان‌ها مورد کاربست قرار گرفته است. از آنجا که این واژه با مفاهیم اجتماعی ـ سیاسی پیوند خورده است، در ادبیات سیاسی رایج در برخی اقشار مردم، بر اثر نفوذ اصطلاحات سکولار فرهنگ غرب، با خلط معنایی و خطای شناختی به کار می‌رود. پژوهش حاضر با هدف تبیین صحیح دایره مفهومی وسط و بررسی معنای مقابل آن و با رویکرد لغوی و تفسیر قرآن به قرآن، به همراه مداقه در نهج البلاغه و بیانات مقام معظم رهبری، اثبات می‎کند که فضای آیات در پی تبیین مسیر و جاده حرکت انسان و نه وصف خود انسان است. حلقه مهم کشف و فهم معنای وسط، توجه به همراهی با واژگانی چون «هدایت»، «صراط مستقیم» و توالی آیات است. نتیجه واکاوی در این مهم، تبیین پیوند مفهومی وسط با واژه مستقیم به معنای ثبات، دوام و عدم تخلف در مسیر حق است. در این تبیین، نقطه مقابل وسط، منحرف است، نه تندرو به معنای مؤمن و کسی که در صراط مستقیم سبقت گرفته و ثبات طریق دارد.
